Dr. Susan Dailley, Dr Shanna Clinch and Dr. Meredith Geldart are our three dedicated mobile veterinarians serving Cambridge, Ayr, Puslinch and area. Peaceful Passing was established in 2015 to ensure that our loved ones’ final moments are spent in their favourite place, surrounded by the people they love. Our practice exclusively offers compassionate in-home pet euthanasia and end-of-life services for small animals.

We are here to answer your questions Monday-Saturday from 9am - 7pm and via email on Sunday. Appointments are scheduled throughout the week, please submit our form for availability.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • The total cost varies, encompassing the in-home pet euthanasia service fee. This includes a vet visit, in-person examination, and the euthanasia procedure. Additionally, based on your aftercare selection, the cost may include, cremation transportation and keepsakes.

  • We understand this is a tender time. Your veterinarian will be present in your home for 20-60 minutes, allowing ample space and time for you to say goodbye and be with your companion in a way that feels most comfortable and peaceful.

  • Will you assess my pet upon arrival?

    It's completely natural to question if the time is right. If you need additional clarity, you may find our Quality of Life Tool helpful, or you may wish to pursue a Quality of life assessment with one of our trusted veterinarians for further guidance.

    Should you schedule a euthanasia with us, our veterinarian will compassionately assess your companion upon arrival. If they feel euthanasia is not the most appropriate path at this time, they will discuss this openly and honestly with you.

  • Peaceful Passing tries to accommodate our patients and can usually available for same day emergency visits. However, Peaceful Passing is not a 24 hour emergency service. If this is a serious emergency, we recommend contacting your regular veterinary clinic or the nearest veterinary emergency facility.

  • During your appointment, the vet will confirm your aftercare selection. If you opt for cremation services, the vet will handle your pet’s transportation to Gateway Pet Memorial. Should you choose a cremation option that includes the return of your pet’s ashes. Peaceful Passing will arrange to have your ashes delivered to your clinic or you are welcome to collect your pet’s cremated remains and memorial items directly from Gateway Pet Memorial.

What to expect:

  • Your Peaceful Passing veterinarian will arrive at your home and will meet you, your family, and your pet. The vet will collect a few details and will request your signature on our electronic consent form. There will also be a chance for you to ask questions and to discuss the process of sedation and euthanasia.

  • Your pet deserves a serene and comfortable farewell. The combination of pain medication and sedatives in this injection will gently guide your pet into a tranquil sleep before the administration of the final injection. Some pets may be a bit nervous to begin with and others may not feel overly comfortable with needles. The vet will guide you to hold your pet in a safe and supportive way and to offer distractions to your pet during the brief intramuscular injection discomfort.

    Sometimes your regular vet can prescribe oral medications that may calm your dog or cat prior to the vet’s arrival. This is often a good idea for very nervous pets and can be discussed with our staff at the time of booking the visit.

  • This is the time for you to get in your final snuggles and kisses as your cherished companion becomes drowsy or drifts off to sleep. Every pet responds a bit differently to sedative medications and some may choose to stay slightly more aware of their surroundings. Your vet will decide if a little more medication is necessary or not.

  • In the final step of euthanasia, a compassionate approach is taken to ensure that your beloved pet experiences a peaceful transition. A carefully administered injection is gently given, allowing your cherished companion to gracefully and painlessly embrace a restful departure from this world.

    This medication is delivered intravenously in most cases.

  • The veterinarian will give you as much time as you need to say goodbye to your cherished companion.

    A fur clipping can be requested before your pet departs from your home.

  • After you have had a chance to say goodbye to your pet, your Peaceful Passing vet will assist in carrying your pet to their vehicle. They will wrap your pet in a blanket, towel, or sheet that you have provided. Larger pets will be carried on a hand-held stretcher to provide support. We will request the assistance of at least one other strong individual at the home for pets weighing over 30 lbs.

  • If you have chosen cremation for your pet’s aftercare, your pet will be respectfully cremated by Gateway Pet Memorial. Gateway Pet Memorial offers a variety of memorial products that can be purchased online. If you have indicated that you are interested in purchasing a memorial product (urn, paw print, or other keepsake), we will set up an account online right after our visit to your home. Once this account has been set up you will receive an email from Gateway Pet Memorial with login information and will have access to this portal for 48 hours.
